One BIG Oops!

I found this story and just had to share it with you. "A Sam's Club pharmacy in Salisbury, Maryland was doing last week. Sams' Club is a membership store and has a checkpoint at the entry where shoppers must show their identification before entering. But at this particular store, employees weren't just checking member cards, they were also promoting the in-store pharmacy by giving children prescription medicine bottles filled with candy. That's right, they stuffed Tootsie Rolls and Dots into real prescription bottles with real prescription labels and handed them out to children. I think this takes the prize for sending the wrong message about prescription medication." They did stop doing this and issued an apology. Now what fool thought this was going to be a good idea in the first place? What are your thoughts on this?

I agree thats a bad message to send out. Its making kids think meds are like candy. They are defenately sending a bad message. Its good they stopped and apologized but the mistake was already made.

Yeah you would think that at least one person would have said something before they went through with such a foolish promotion. Thanks for posting.

This story is a bit shocking for the message it sends. I'm surprized that Sam's Club stopped the promotion, but maybe they could be sued. I used to shop at Sam's Club, but I don't anymore because unless one has a huge family, it doesn't really pay off. Thanks for posting this interesting tidbit.

I loved sam's club but I have a huge family. The trouble is that they were so far away it wasn't worth the drive time, gas money, and putting up with the awful traffic on WHY 60 where they put the store. So I dropped the membership and work locally with other discount stores. I would be surprised if there were no lawsuits over this one. In this day where people sue over nearly everything and money is tight for everyone. Thanks for the post and have a great day.

Well, my apologies to anyone from Salisbury, Maryland in advance, but I was born and raised in Maryland. I can honestly say that, for Salisbury, Maryland, this is par for the course! Salisbury is on the Eastern Shore, which is pretty much farm country. Education takes a back seat to farming for the majority of those living on the Eastern Shore. So, I can believe a bonehead scheme like this coming from there. This is as bad as those Barbie bags! Well, even moreso because putting candy in medicine bottles and giving them out to children is a recipe for disaster! Children don't understand the hazards of taking unnecessary medications and they certainly don't give a moment's thought to the amount of medicine to take when it IS necessary. I can only hope that their apology is enough and that no child is poisoned by this unbelievably stupid stunt!

No kidding right how many kids do you think went home, ran out of whatever was in the bottles, and went looking for more in the medicine cabinet. Here's one fro you,,, why would the parents allow their kids to accept the candy? I know I wouldn't because it is so dangerous. If they freak out it's ok as long as they are alive right. I am glad to see you turned out to be smarter than these people even though you were born there. LOLLOL You know we love ya. Thanks for the post.

Well, I wasn't born or raised in Salisbury. I just know some folks from there, plus my family vacationed on the Eastern Shore every year when I was little. The more people you meet from that area, the more you'll be convinced that they were out fishing or crabbing when the brains were being handed out! LOL I was born and raised in Baltimore, which really isn't saying much. Some smart people came from Baltimore, though. Elaine from Seinfeld is from Towson, in Baltimore County. I'm not sure exactly how smart she is, but she's an okay actress. Oh! Frank Zappa was from Baltimore! Oops, guess I shouldn't have mentioned him, huh? The guy was about a 9 on the weird-o-meter!
